I love to fish and race homing pigeons in our local San Diego club. I live in Claremont and have lived in San Diego since 1959. I love to be on the ocean or the bay working, fishing, or diving. I also like to garden and grow palm trees.

Captain Mark
seal tours guideI am a native of Nebraska, and have lived in San Diego for more than 40 years. I first came here when I joined the Navy fresh out of high school. Serving almost four years, I decided to stay in this city that I came to love. Entering an apprenticeship program, I worked in the printing industry for the next several decades. By 2002, technology changed the career focus to starting a new job outlook at mid-life. An aspiring writer, I continue work on Great American Novels. I am certain that my storytelling abilities, powers of observation, and love of working with people will infuse my Old Town Trolley SEAL Tour-and that it, in turn, will enhance my writing. I am an active outdoors man. I love to ski, surf, and hike. My wife Beth and I camp and whitewater raft together. I have three children and six grandchildren.

He saw service as an officer with the Royal Engineers and later with the Royal Marines, where he led adventure expeditions to North Africa and Eastern Europe. He holds a USCG Captain’s License and has worked as a professional Ships Captain on the west coast of Mexico. His interest in Maritime History led to a special study of 19th century British Maritime exploration in the Sea of Cortez. His interests include hiking in the interior of Mexico and kayaking in the Sea of Cortez. He is a member of the San Diego Zoological Society, an avid bird watcher, and an amateur Naturalist. Currently he teaches scuba diving, specializing in underwater photography. When he is not in or on the water he can be found at home listening to Italian Opera or playing Spanish Guitar.

Captain Don
seal captainDon’s boating experience started with the U.S. Navy where as a young Lieutenant, he commanded a 50’ Fast Patrol Craft, better known as a Swift Boat. It was in the Navy where he was drawn to the open sea, developing a love of its beauty, and most importantly, a respect for its power. After the Navy, Don stayed on the water as the captain of sailboats by cruising the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Northwest, Chesapeake Bay, and New England. Some of his fondest memories include cruises to Bermuda, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and the coast of Maine. In addition to his professional boating career, as a CPA and consultant, Don devoted a large portion of his career to sales and marketing, specializing in financial software systems. Don has sailed San Diego waters for the past 10 years and has come to admire everything Americas Finest City has to offer. Once of his greatest joys as Captain is meeting new people, helping them see and enjoy our great city and have a wonderful time visiting us.

Captain Mark
markI grew up in Seattle, Washington and moved to southern California to attend college at SDSU. I received a degree in Recreation and Tourism Management. I’ve grown up on the water and always enjoyed all activities that come with it. I’ve spent the last two years working for Hornblower Cruises and Events as a first officer. From dinner cruises to whale watching, I’ve met many guests from around the world attending our tours and learned a great deal in the process. I’m excited to captain the SEALs and to see where this next aquatic adventure takes me!

Captain Murphy
murphyMy name is Bob Murphy. Most friends call me “Murph”. I lived in Texas for 12 years operating my own fishing guide service on the lakes of the Houston area. Prior to being in Texas, I lived in San Diego for 30 years. I ran sport fishing boats out of H & M Landing, Fisherman’s Landing, Seaforth, and Mission Bay Sport Fishing. 41 years with a Captain’s license has allowed me to fish (which is my favorite pastime), run natural history whale watching trips, long range fishing trips, and some dive trips in So. Ca. area waters. My hobbies include fishing, hunting, some golf, and fishing some more.

Captain Audrey
audreyI’ve sailed my entire adult life and find there’s nothing more relaxing than spending time on the water. As a full time live-aboard beginning in 2003, I cruised aboard my 54’ sailboat, sailing from my home town of San Diego, down the coast of Mexico, Central America, through the Panama Canal into the Caribbean Sea, wandering through the San Blas Islands, and visiting Columbia, Venezuela, and numerous Caribbean islands. After returning to live “on land” again, I spent last year working overseas in Qatar as a Technical Editor for Operations at the Qatargas Refinery, a very rewarding and interesting experience. I’m home again in San Diego and enjoy spending time with old friends, sailing, and occasionally crewing in local sailing races. As a Seal Captain, meeting new and interesting people to share the unique experience of seeing San Diego from the vantage point of a Seal will be great fun for both my passengers and me.

First Mate Tom
seal tours guide

Hi! I grew up in the mid-west…Chicago and northern Indiana. I graduated from Indiana University in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Radio & Television Production and Direction. My professional career included jobs at a few of the best advertising and promotional marketing agencies in the U.S. from the 70’s thru the early 90’s. I had the privilege of working for top-rated clients like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, United Air Lines, and Holiday Inn. Then, in the late 90’s, I went to work for Brunswick Bowling and was their Director of Marketing, living in Europe until 1998. I gave up corporate life and moved to San Diego and became a Tour Conductor for the Old Town Trolley Tours, and then in 2007, moved over to the San Diego SEAL as a guide. This is the greatest job in the world! Every day, I meet new people from all over the world and share the history of the great city of San Diego! I hope you will take one of my tours someday and enjoy what I get to enjoy about San Diego every day!

First Mate Jerry
seal guideI started out an infant in Schenectady, NY. One December, when I was playing in the snow, decided I didn’t like the cold, told my parents I was moving to San Diego and if they wanted to come along, they were invited. They did, we moved. I was raised in Chula Vista. I was fortunate enough to go to Castle Park High School, where for the better part of the 60’s, we clobbered Sweetwater in about every endeavor. I still live in Chula Vista with my wife and two children.
