Spring Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon

The event is a sprint and intermediate triathlon race with entertaining music along the course. The Spring Course consists of a 500-meter swim, 9-mile cycle, and a 3.1-mile run. The Olympic Course consists of a 1,500-meter swim, 21-mile cycle, and a 6.2-mile run. An expo accompanies the event.

Gator by the Bay is a 3-day festival featuring Cajun, Zydeco, Blues and Country musicians and Louisiana cuisine and culture. The festival will be held over Mother’s Day weekend at Spanish Landing Park on North Harbor Drive. This family oriented event includes performances by nationally recognized Cajun, Zydeco and Blues performers, local performing musicians, dancing, dance instruction, cooking demonstrations, ethnic food and arts vendors, community exhibits, cultural workshops, children’s arts and crafts and colorful daily “Mardi Gras” style parades through the festival grounds.

The Crystal Pier Outrigger Canoe Race is a Southern California Outrigger Racing Association Race, hosted by Hanohano Canoe Club in San Diego, CA. The race draws 2,500+ participants annually who battle in a 6-mile short course, novice and kid’s race as well as a 10-mile men, women and coed races in six person outrigger canoes.

Bike to Work Day is a nationally recognized event celebrated annually on the third Friday in May. Since May is National Bike Month, San Diegans have opportunities to GO by BIKE all month long. Bike Month 2017 supports biking as a viable, environmentally friendly, cost-saving commute choice. With thousands of miles of bike-ways in the San Diego region, biking gets you where you need to go. The first annual Mito Walk and Roll 5K is a family oriented event. This year’s event will include interactive games, face painting, bounce house, pictures with princesses, magic show, caricature drawings, food trucks, live music and much more. Participants are encouraged to walk, run or roll to show their support for our cause. The Mito Walk and Roll is an event for the whole family; it is a great chance to get some exercise, enjoy quality family time, and support UCSD's Mitochondrial Research Fund at the same time. This event represents a great opportunity for runners, as well as family members and friends, to kick off the summer! Proceeds will benefit the UCSD Mitochondrial and Metabolic Disease Center.

Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

The marathon consists of a 26.2 mile foot-race, a half marathon, and a post race concert at the end of the route. 20+ bands will play live music along the course. The races feature a revamped half marathon course and unveiled a new finish line at waterfront Park for the 2016 event. The marathon and half marathon will continue to start in Balboa Park, with both distances starting together at 6:15am. The half marathon course highlights include: A Balboa Park Start Line, a city tour under the iconic Hillcrest, North Park, Mission Hills, and Normal Heights signs, and a downhill finish to the end at the Waterfront Park.

The Big Bay Boom July 4th Fireworks Show is back, promising another spectacular display over San Diego Bay. Fireworks will be discharged simultaneously from barges placed strategically around the Bay off Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Embarcadero North, Seaport Village, Embarcadero South Marina Park and Coronado Ferry Landing. The impeccably choreographed display will last approximately 17 minutes.

This weekend event celebrates the anniversary of Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the Mother of California's 21 Missions, which was founded by Blessed Father Junipero Serra on July 16, 1769. Each year in mid-July, parishioners, volunteers and visitors all gather for one weekend to celebrate the beginning of Christianity in the western United States with food, entertainment, dancing and traditional activities like the Blessing of the Bells and the Blessing of the Animals. All five Mission bells are rung during the weekend festivities, including an original bell dating back to 1802. The Festival of the Bells is a great family event and is a great opportunity for everyone to visit and learn more about this historical landmark.
